Looking for Denny Crane at a Star Trek Convention
My daughter Hannah and I visited the Star Trek convention in Denver to meet William Shatner because of his role of Denny Crane.

Who Am I? (and my composers)
Someone recently asked whether I think of myself as Russian, or American. My initial response (without thinking) was – American. But as I gave this question more thought I realized that the answer is more complex.

Zurich to Nice – Travel Notes
I'm sharing my experience of traveling from Zurich to Nice, and I'm struggling to organize my thoughts into words.

Zurich to Nice
On January 28th, my brother and I are flying to Zurich to attend the by-invitation-only VALUEx Klosters conference. Attendees are expected to present and share their best investment ideas, and we will also get to ski and enjoy the food in the Swiss Alps. Afterwards, we will rent a car and embark on a six-day journey from Zurich to Nice, France.

Resetting Defaults – Managing Your Time
What I am about to share with you is somewhat random drivel about a topic that has been very important to me in 2018 – managing your time. I am anything but an expert on it; and in fact, as you’ll see, this is something I fail in and am trying to fail less.

Life Itself
My wife and I recently watched the movie Life Itself (available to stream for free on Amazon Prime). I am glad I didn’t look at ratings before I watched it.

My Self-Improvement Journey

Hug Your Kids
I spent a weekend at Laguna Beach with my family. We liked to start the day with a walk to a coffee shop and then spend the day at the beach. On our last day, my daughter Mia Sarah almost drowned in the pool because she doesn't know how to swim yet. I’ve been hugging my kids a lot more the past few days.

Being A Father
What's better: leaving your children with $100M after you pass away, or leaving them with fond memories of your time together? Sparked by an unexpected comment from a millionaire's son, I ponder this question.

London Value Conference Presentation (Q&A)
I had the pleasure of speaking at the London Value Conference, which was a terrific, first-rate event. I did not make a formal presentation; instead I did Q&A with my friend, the wonderful David Shapiro.

Public Speaking. London. Laguna Beach
On May 24 I’ll be speaking at the London Value Investor Conference. My super-smart friend David Shapiro is the conference’s MC, in addition to running a very successful fund of funds in London, he will be conducting a fireside type of chat interview with me.

I Left My Heart in San Francisco
I had a short meeting in San Francisco on Sunday. I absolutely hate travelling alone, and this time I was joined by daughter Hannah and my aunt. I always look for an excuse to visit San Francisco.

This Is What Happiness Feels Like
This is what happiness feels like. You really don’t know what true emotions are until you become a parent.

Perspective
Every day my father forwards emails to friends and relatives. I discovered that my perspective on my father’s emails had completely changed.

Little Moments, or How to Give a Great Speech
I was supposed to give a presentation at the GuruFocus conference in Omaha. The speech ended up being the best presentation I have probably ever given, and I have given plenty of them over the last ten years.

Life – 2017 Edition
I am not going to talk about the stock market, particular stocks, the economy, or the new president. Instead I’ll talk about life.

Why Do I Torture My Kids … With Classical Music?

Last year I wrote about our annual trip to Santa Fe. The first two years it was grandfather, father, and son. This year we were joined by my nine-year-old daughter, Hannah.
